INVITED TALK:
Internet of Things and Its Enabling Technology

TALK ABSTRACT:
The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to a world-wide network of interconnected heterogeneous objects or devices that are uniquely addressable and communicate by using standard Internet protocols tailored for this new class of devices. IoT promises to enhance various domains ranging from health care to manufacturing to personal living, by connecting the physical things to Internet. It therefore provides an enabling platform to closely interact with the physical world to improve the processes and automate the decision making by using rich data analytics techniques. In this talk, I will provide an overview of this innovative technology and its evolutionary path. The IoT support over the Internet has been made possible through the new protocols tailored for IoT yet under the compliance of Internet protocols and architecture. Furthermore various efforts are in progress to harvest the true potential of this disrupting technology by the standardization and common middleware platforms. I will also provide a brief overview of IoT protocols and development platforms to give an insight for the development of new IoT applications.
