TALK ABSTRACT:
Internet Censorship is prevalent with more than 70 countries prohibiting free access to online content. There is a growing interest in the research community for policy and technology research in this area. This talk will highlight some of the technical aspects of internet censorship in the backdrop of three research projects underway at LUMS. In particular, we will talk about
(1) The impact of Internet censorship on various stakeholders (users, content providers, ISPs),
(2) Building a robust censorship measurement system with built-in incentives, and
(3) How the advertisement-driven digital economy gets impacted by the internet censorship.

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY: Zartash is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering at LUMS, Lahore, Pakistan. He received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from UET, Taxila and M.S. and Ph.D. from Stanford University. Previously, he has held positions at Nokia research center, Bell Laboratories, and Max Planck Institute for Software Systems. His recent research interests include Scheduling Efficiency in Data Center Networks and Internet Censorship.
